My Puppy
Just incase you haven't had the pleasure of meeting my obedient puppy (HA!) this is my Kai dog. He's very handsome and wants the whole internet to know!
Brown Butter Frosting
Chris and I were on a brown butter kick last week, and may be for the rest of all time. It's amazing how just spending a little extra time with butter can bring out such an incredible nutty flavor. We made the frosting and smeared it over simple chocolate cupcakes. The recipe will be in my online cookbook. If you are new to my blog, if you look over on the left hand side near the top of my page there is a picture of a cupcake baking a cake labled MY COOKBOOK click on that and it will take you to all my recipies in one neat little place. Enjoy!

Day Trip
Well since this week is my Spring Break Chris and I had to get out of Bakersfield atleast for the day. Yesterday we decided to just hop onto I5 and head south and not make any more plans than that. Our first stop was In-N-Out where we had cheeseburgers and shared an order of animal style fries. We then headed out to City Walk at Universal Studios and walked through the shops.
Our next destination was Santa Monica. For those of you who don't know, Chris is a bit of a beer snob. If you ever are at the melodrama look above the snack bar in the lounge and look at his ever growing beer bottle collection. Well he's been searching for a particular IPA and knew of a place in Santa Monica that was supposed to carry it. When we went to the store the man working at the counter said they were out but just then the other employee yelled out that they had just recieved a shipment just then. It was Chris' lucky day. Chris isn't the only one with snobbery in this story, I'm a cupcake snob. There I said it. My name is Shaylan Trone and I love cupcakes. We were driving down Wilshire Blvd. and that's when I saw it, The Vanilla Bake Shop. I've seen this place online before but never realized I would have the pleasure of stopping in. Chris found a place to park, 7 dollars later the car was parked and we were dashing to the bake shop. It was more amazing that I ever imagined. Visit their website at http://www.vanillabakeshop.com/. Chris and I shared a meyer lemon raspberry cupcake.
We had a long ride home full of traffic, Chris had to be back in town by 6:30pm for rehearsal. However, pictures of that cupcake make the 5 hours in the car completely worth it. I can't wait to go back.
We had a great day trip together! The weekend after Easter the melodrama doesn't have a show so Chris and I are going to spend the weekend with my parents over in Arroyo Grande. Wine tasting adventure here we come!

Brown Butter Rice Crispy Treats
Chris found this website a while back and when we saw these brown butter rice krispy treats we knew we had to give them a shot. We made them the other day and took them to the church staff at St. Johns.
Take a look at the Smitten Kitchen website, I couldn't explain the process any better than this!
Smitten Kitchen Rice Krispies
If you love rice krispy treats as much as the rest of the world does, make these, go now. Such an amazing addition to the classic treat.

Nutter Butter Truffles
I can't even explain just how easy and tasty these are. 3 ingredients, that's it.
Take a package of nutter butter cookies, grind them up in the food processor. Take a bar of softened cream cheese and use a pastry cutter to combine the cream cheese and cookie crumbles. Use a cookie scoop to form the mixture into rounded balls. Dip the cookie balls in chocolate and set them in the fridge for an hour. Any one can do this. They are certainly a crowd pleaser!
