Savannah's 1st Birthday
Tomorrow is Savannah's First Birthday! For those of you who don't know Savannah she is Nik and Melissa's daughter. Nik is Chris' best friend since they were in Jr. High. The Cars cake I made a few weeks ago was for their youngest son, Kyle. I just have their oldest son, Tyler, left to make a cake for on his birthday. Anyways, when Melissa asked me to make a cake for Savannah's first birthday I was thrilled. I was even more excited when she told me she wanted a Minnie Mouse cake. Here it is: Savannah's own mini Minnie cake with matching cupcakes for her guests.
Can't wait to see her tear into that cake tomorrow!
Here are a few more PICTURES!

Homemade Samoas
My very favorite girl scout cookie is Samoas, when I found a recipe for Samoa bars I knew I had to try it. They're tasty but I must say, there is plenty of room for improvement. The crust could be thinner, the caramel higher quality and a semi-sweet would be better than the dark chocolate we used. I will post the recipe in my cookbook later on if you'd like to try them. They sure are pretty though!
World of Color Recap
Alright it's been over a week since we saw World of Color and I still can't stop thinking and telling everyone I know about how amazing this show was. Let's start at the beginning. My cousin Taylor and her friend Patrick joined Chris and I last Tuesday on one of the top 3 Disney trips we've ever been on. We started off making our normal loops through Disneyland and then we found out Patrick had never been to California Adventure (which I will refer to as DCA- Disney's California Adventure). We high tailed across the way and showed Patrick the wonder that is DCA.
Chris and I learned about a bar and appetizer spot that's been in the park since it opened that we'd never been to. It's called 'The Cove Bar' and it's right above Ariel's Grotto. We stopped in and him and I got drinks and we all shared some Chips and Salsa. Later in the day we picked up our World of Color picnic meals. Disney released these meals as special way to get preferred seating for World of Color. All the meals are pre-ordered online and you pick them up the day you're seeing the show. Taylor and Patrick had the All-American which was cold fried chicken, coleslaw, potato salad and apple pie. Chris had the Asian inspired meal with a miso salmon, soba noodle salad, spring roll, and a slice of mandarin orange cake. I had the mediterranean meal: italian cured meats, artisan cheeses, a caprese skewer, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, pepperoncinis and a slice of chocolate covered tiramisu.
The best part of the day was the new water show at DCA, World of Color. We took our preferred seating vouchers and headed to the new Paradise Park viewing area. We got spots to sit/stand in the very very front. We were on the deck where we learned you get soaked!!! At first we thought maybe they were just selling ponchos because it's Disney and they sell anything and everything they can. After consulting a cast member we learned that ponchos are a wise choice since it's "like being rained on non-stop for 30 minutes." Trust them, they know what they are talking about! The show was amazing.

Disney Videos
Still need to do a post on all the food and fun we had on our first world of color trip, but to hold you over: here are the videos I took of the trip!
The first is all of us in the animation studio waiting to draw pictures of beloved 'Chip' and Taylor and Patrick teach us a scene from the Lion King. Following that is the pre-show to world of color. I started out trying to video tape world of color and decided my camera was going to get ruined from all the water!
Next is the fireworks show in Disneyland
And finally Fantasmic at Disneyland
I better hurry up and get everything about this trip posted soon because I'm going again July 6th!!!

WORLD OF COLOR
I've been following Disney's latest project World of Color for about 2 years now. Every day I've read updates from Disney's blog that have raved and built up SOO much hype about this show. Yesterday was the big day and I went in with VERY high expectations. I was blown out of the water (hehe pun intended). The descriptions, videos and images can not come close to comparing how magical and sheerly amazing this show this.
I'm in the process of putting our pictures and videos from the day together and will post a whole big update once I get a chance but until then, watch this promo video for World of Color released by the DisneyParks Blog I follow.
We had an incredible time to say the least!

Blue Velvet Baby Shower Cupcakes
My best friend Kim is having a baby boy, Morgan Carter Slikker, and he is due July 10th. Tomorrow we're having her shower to celebrate and I was asked to make the cupcakes for the occasion. Kim's favorite is my red velvet cupcakes but that would do the trick for a baby boy: the solution, blue velvet.
After much research I learned that adding a smidgen of violet food coloring would keep the blue food coloring from having an icky green tone (which is apparently quite common with blue food coloring), well it worked! They turned out the perfect deep velvety blue. They were topped with a baby blue cream cheese frosting and silver glittery bits.
I sure hope they taste as good as they look! My original red velvet recipe came from Paula Dean's cookbook and as I was watching food network while baking guess who comes on TV and makes her red velvet cupcakes! It was so poetic to be cooking along with Paula.

Memorial Day/ CHS Graduation
For Memorial Day Chris and I made dinner for his Mom and Grandparents. Ribs, Beans, Salad, Garlic Bread... Yummy!!! And for dessert: Strawberry Short Cake!
For my cousin Taylor's High School Graduation from Centennial High School I was in charge of cupcakes. My basic vanilla cupcakes and vanilla frosting. It's hard to tell from the photos but the red frosting was dusted with gold shimmer and edible gold stars. Very fun and festive!Up next on the baking front: June 10th- 40 cupcakes for a CSUB graduation blue and gold
June 12th- 50 baby shower cupcakes blue velvet with baby blue cream cheese frosting
Stay Tuned!
